Cat and Mouse

-Objective:

For the cat ball to catch the mouse ball

-Fundamental Movement Skills:

  • Manipulative Send

    • Roll

-Equipment List:

  • One stability ball per games with 16-32 players

-Setting Up:

  • Separate players into two teams, and have each player select a partner on her team.

  • Players stand in a double circle facing their partners, alternating pairs from the two teams (i.e., a mouse team pair stands beside a cat team pair).

  • Assign the cat ball to one team and the mouse ball to the other.

-Instructions:

  • The cat team can only touch the cat ball, and the mouse team can only touch the mouse ball. Either ball can contact players from either team accidentally, but players may not purposely slow down or speed up the ball of the other team.

  • On your signal to begin, the cat team tries to propel its ball around the circle so that it catches up with the mouse ball.

  • The mouse team tries to keep its ball away from the cat ball.

  • The leader times how long it takes for the cat to catch the mouse. 

  • Switch roles (the cat team becomes the mouse team and vice versa).

    • Figure-Eight Cat and Mouse:

      • Played the same as Cat and Mouse except that instead of having one circle, have two circles with an opening at one side that joins the two circles.

    • Two-Mice Figure-Eight Cat and Mouse:

      • Played the same as Figure-Eight Cat and Mouse except that there are two mice.

    • Cloverleaf Cat and Mouse:

      • Played the same as Cat and Mouse except that instead of having one circle, have three circles with an opening at the side that joins the three circles.

    • Two- (or Three-) Mice Cloverleaf Cat and Mouse:

      • Played the same as Cloverleaf Cat and Mouse except that there are two or three mice.
