  • One soccer ball per group of six players

2-4 Keep-away

-Mise en place:

  • Using 6 pylons define 2 adjacent squares.

  • The offensive team has the ball and all their players in one square, while the defensive team has 2 players in each square.

-Instructions:

  • By throwing the ball--handing the ball to a teammate is not permitted--to a teammate,  players attempt to pass the ball to their teammates.

  • Every 10 consecutive passes counts for 1 point.

  • Teams try to score 5 points to win a game.

  • The defending team tries to intercept the passes.

  • If the defending team intercepts a pass, or a pass goes out-of-bounds, the defending team gets the ball on their side and attempts to make 10 consecutive passes.

  • The 2 defensive players join their 2 teammates on their own court.

  • The team that was on the offense is know on defence and sends 2 players into the other team’s court to try and break up their passes.

-Questions et notes:

  • Safety considerations:

    • Players should keep heads up to avoid crashing into each other.

    • No body contact is permitted.

  • Instructional tip:

    • Players need to find open spaces so their teammates can pass them the ball.

  • Variations:

    • Basketball Pass 2-4 Keep-away:

      • The same as 2-4 Keep-away but players may only use a specific type of basketball pass, for example: bounce pass or chest pass.

    •  Lacrosse 2-4 Keep-away:

      • The same as Take-a-break Keep-away but using lacrosse sticks and a lacrosse ball.
