-Mise en place:

  • One player stands by the net with a bird in hand, the other player stands opposite the net in the back of the badminton court. Play on half the width of a court.

-Instructions:

  • The player at the net clears the bird to the player in the back.

  • The player in the back returns a drop shot to the player in the front.

  • See how long players can successfully continue this pattern.

-Questions et notes:

  • Safety considerations:

    • If more players are doing the same drill on the same court players need to watch out that they do not hit each other.

  • Instructional tips:

    • Emphasize proper distance, trajectory, and speed of shots

  • Variations:

    • There are many variations on Clear, Drop which involve more movement, including the following:

      •  Clear, Clear, Drop

      •  Clear, Drop, Drop

      •  Clear, Clear, Drop, Drop

      •  Clear, Clear, Clear, Drop

    • Doubles: Each variation can also be played with pairs (one at the net the other at the back of the court). While pairs includes more people it reduces the movement of each player.

  • As a cool-down

    • Each works well as a cool-down, particularly if the clears are high and not too many drop shots are used.
